THE 5th ANNUAL ILLINOIS
RT. 66 RED CARPET
CORRIDOR FESTIVAL
MAY 5-6, 2012

It is all about family fun on the
most famous road in America -
Route 66. This year’s Red
Carpet Corridor Festival will
take place on Saturday, May
5, from 8 AM to 5 PM, and
Sunday, May
6, from 8 AM to
3 PM.  Sponsored by the
twelve communities which
make up the 90-mile linear
museum from Joliet to
Towanda, the annual festival
invites everyone to experience
the good life in the slow lane.

Each community will produce
its own events. From full-
blown festivals to antique and
craft sales, art sales, car and
motorcycle shows, live
entertainments, and plenty of
yard, garage, and sidewalk
sales along the way, everyone
is sure to discover something
unique.

Food, snacks and treats will
be in abundance, and there
are plenty of historic sites,
outstanding free museums
and unique mom & pop
businesses to help create a
nostalgic journey for all to
enjoy. Visitors can simply
enjoy the drive, or stop and
get out of the car to paint a
mural, have their picture taken
with Elvis, or do a little
shopping in any of the great
stores along the Mother
Road.
The Village of Godley will be the site of
the new Illinois Route 66 Mining
Museum. Although the building lacks
the classic look, the site has historical
significance as the original Village Hall
was once located here. Plans include a
facade reminiscent of the areas mining
days and will highlight Illinois' Mother
Lode of mining history along the Mother
Road. Exhibits will feature our mining
roots, it's ancient beginnings unearthed
as a result of the mining industry, the
Route 66 culture that evolved along the
way and other topics of local interest.

The project is made possible through a
joint partnership between the grass
roots group known as the GR3C, the
Village of Godley and the Route 66
Association of Illinois Preservation
Committee.

Volunteers from area communities are
welcome to participate in this project
that celebrates our heritage. As always,
the Preservation Committee motto is
"We Work for Food", a supper will be
provided on site.
